World Champion Tom Daley has pulled out of the British Gas Diving Championships taking place in Sheffield this weekend because of a slight back injury.
Following his impressive performance in 2009 at the World Championships, where he became Britain’s youngest World Champion, he has been preselected for his key events of the year.
The rest of 2010 will see Daley compete at the European Championships in Budapest and the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Daley hurt his back in training and although he is on the road to recovery the event came too soon for him to return to the boards.
Plymouth Diving’s Head Coach Andy Banks said: “I am pleased that there is no evidence of any serious problems with Tom’s back. The physio and medical team have done a great job at helping with his recovery.
“He is currently recovering well but now his list is quite complex it would have been reckless to put it together at the last minute.
“The focus for us now is to re-build his lists in preparation for his busy international season ahead.”
